Brian Van Emmerik of Custom Cut Land Works with his son
A Letter from the Owner

Hello, Upstate!

My name is Brian Van Emmerik, and my family and I are proud to call the Upstate home. I grew up working on my family’s farms in the Midwest, where I learned early that land takes care of you when you take care of it.

I spent more than twenty years in heavy civil construction, helping manage projects like the Ravenel Bridge in Charleston and the I-385 Gateway right here in Greenville. Custom Cut Land Works is where all of that experience comes home, to the driveways, home sites, and pastures of our neighbors across the Upstate.

We’re a family company through and through. My three boys are growing up around this work the same way I grew up on the farm, and we run the business on the values we live by: honesty, hard work, and respect for the land. When we’re on your property, we treat it like our own.

If you’ve got land that needs clearing, grading, or just a plan, give me a call. I’d be glad to walk it with you.

Upstate Land Clearing, Grading & Site Prep

Custom Cut Land Works is a family-owned land clearing and excavation company serving seven counties across the Upstate and the Lakelands: Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Pickens, Laurens, Greenwood, and McCormick. We clear overgrown lots and wooded acreage, grade building pads and yards, install gravel driveways built to survive Carolina rain, and dig farm and fishing ponds built to hold water.

Every job is walked before it’s priced, priced before it’s started, and run by the owner from the first stake to the final grade. No subcontracted crews and no surprise charges. Just clean, precise site work, priced in writing before we start.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beyond 5 Stars! If you have a complex land, grading, or drainage issue, look no further than Brian at Custom Cut Land Works. We hired Brian to rework our ~950-foot gravel driveway and clear an acre in our backyard, and the level of service we received was nothing short of incredible. Here is why Brian stands out above the rest: Unmatched Dedication: Before we even started the driveway project, Brian spent over a year coming by on days with torrential downpours just to observe how water traveled down our property. He literally rushed over during heavy rainstorms to map out a foolproof plan from the top of the road all the way past our house to prevent any chance of flooding. True Expertise: Out of 5 different companies that gave us quotes, nobody else took the time to address the root drainage issues caused by the driveway’s pitch. Brian was the only one who truly understood the problem and designed a custom solution. Flawless Execution: He regraded the driveway, brought in crusher run, and solved every single drainage issue we had. It works amazingly well, and we have total peace of mind now. Long-Term Planning: He cleared an acre in our backyard this summer with a solid game plan for fall seeding. Next, he’s coming back to handle the crabgrass, apply a lime treatment to balance the soil pH, lay a sand/dirt mix, power-rake, and seed the entire property at once. We are so happy and grateful we chose Custom Cut Land Works. Brian’s attention to detail, patience, and genuine care for doing the job right are impossible to find anywhere else. If you need gravel driveway work, drainage solutions, or land clearing in the Fountain Inn, SC area, call Brian. You will be so glad you did!

Why the Upstate Chooses Custom Cut

Owner-run, every job

Family-owned, and the owner runs the machine on your property. You deal with Brian from the first stake to the final grade.

We never bury debris

Cleared material is mulched, hauled off, or burned legally. Buried debris settles into sunken driveways and cracked slabs years later.

Heavy-civil experience

More than twenty years in heavy civil construction, from the Ravenel Bridge to the I-385 Gateway, brought home to driveways, home sites, and pastures.

A free site walk, not a phone quote

We walk the land and quote what your property actually needs — a real number, not a guess over the phone.

Licensed, insured, compliance carried

Fully licensed and insured. The SC811 locates, county rules, and erosion controls are ours to handle, never your fines.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does land clearing cost in the Upstate?

It depends on acreage, how thick the growth is, and how machines get in. That’s why we quote after a free site walk. You’ll have a written price for your land before anything starts.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Fully licensed and insured, and every job is run by the owner.

What happens to the trees and debris?

Your call: hauled off, mulched back into the ground, or staged for firewood. We price the options during the walk so nothing surprises you.

How big a job will you take on?

From a half-acre residential lot to full acreage. If a job isn’t a fit for our equipment, we’ll tell you on the walk and point you the right direction.

Do I need permits for clearing or grading?

Sometimes. It depends on your county and what the land drains into. We work across seven counties in the Upstate and the Lakelands and will tell you exactly what your project needs.
