Land work in Central, done the way we'd do our own

Central has grown well past its railroad-depot beginnings. New subdivisions like The Grange and student housing near Southern Wesleyan sit along SC 93 and the US 123 corridor, while rural tracts in 29630 run from small lots to forty-plus acres just outside town. We clear, grade, and cut driveways on both. This is Cecil red clay in rolling foothills, and Twelve Mile Creek runs right through town — water has to be moved on purpose here. The owner walks your land, writes the scope and price, and treats the place like his own.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit for land work in Central?

Not for most small residential jobs — Pickens County's permit threshold is one acre of disturbance, or less if the site is part of a larger common development plan. At that point the county Stormwater Office gets involved and state coverage requires a stormwater pollution prevention plan. Slope and creek proximity still matter below the threshold, especially with Twelve Mile Creek running through town, so we grade with erosion control either way.

Why does my gravel driveway wash out every year?

Because the Upstate gets roughly 52 inches of rain a year and Cecil red clay barely absorbs it — water runs across the surface and takes the gravel with it. Stone dumped straight on grade sinks into the clay and washes. The fix is a compacted crusher-run base over the clay, a crowned surface, and cross-drainage like culverts or water bars on slopes so downhill water gets broken up instead of running the length of the drive.

Do you take on small residential jobs in Central?

Yes. From a single overgrown backyard lot to full acreage, if it’s a fit for our equipment we’ll take it — and if it isn’t, we’ll tell you on the walk and point you the right direction.
