Taylors carries a long and layered history. The mineral spring at Chick Springs drew Cherokee people long before its first written mention in 1802, and by 1840 Dr. Burwell Chick had opened a sixty-room resort hotel beside it. That first hotel burned in 1862, and in 1927 a ginger ale company was incorporated the same year an amusement park opened on the property. The town itself took shape when Alfred Taylor lobbied the Southern Railway to route through his land, creating Taylor's Station in the 1870s and 1880s; the apostrophe fell away early in the twentieth century and the name became Taylors. Textiles followed when the Southern Bleachery and Print Works opened on Mill Street in 1924. That complex, now Taylors Mill, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012 and has been reborn as a mixed-use place with a craft brewery, artist studios, a restaurant, event space, and an arcade, and it hosts the Taylors Local market.
